Startup of the Crossroads of America Chapter

Background on INCOSE

INCOSE is an international organization formed to develop, nurture, and enhance the interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realization of successful systems. INCOSE works with industry, academia, and government to:

§         provide a focal point for dissemination of systems engineering knowledge

§         promote collaboration in systems engineering education and research

§         assure the establishment of professional standards for integrity and in the practice of systems engineering

§         encourage governmental and industrial support for research and educational programs that will improve the systems engineering process and its practice

INCOSE is a dynamic and growing organization. In 8 short years, growth has exceeded 3,400 members and 33 chartered chapters (with a dozen more on the way). The local chapters, volunteer committees, and working groups provide the energy and direction for the organization. The overall orchestration of INCOSE is the responsibility of an executive committee consisting of the president, president-elect, past president, secretary, and treasurer. The executive committee and the 15 directors comprise the board, which guides INCOSE activities. The Corporate Advisory Board provides additional guidance and recommendations, as well as serving as the "voice of the consumer" for our products. INCOSE's meeting cycle has evolved into two major annual meetings-a business/working committee meeting in January, and a technical symposium in the summer. The summer symposium is one of INCOSE's foremost events, drawing 700 participants for four days of technical exchange, paper presentations, panel discussions, and tutorials.

Why your organization should be involved in INCOSE

INCOSE can help your organization become a leader by applying the systems approach to solving your organization's problems.

Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realization of successful systems. It focuses on defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle, documenting requirements, then proceeding with design synthesis of powerful architectures and system validation while considering the complete problem:

§         Operations

§         Performance

§         Test

§         Manufacturing

§         Cost & Schedule

§         Training & Support

§         Disposal

Systems Engineering integrates all the disciplines and specialty groups into a team effort forming a structured development process that proceeds from concept to production to operation. Systems Engineering considers both the business and the technical needs of all customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user needs.  Systems Engineering is distinct from, but supports specific technology (e.g., mechanical, electrical, software engineering)

INCOSE publishes valuable information including Systems Engineering magazine and the Insight newsletter.

INCOSE pursues current important themes including:  Education & Research, Measurement, Modeling & Tools, Processes & Methods, SE Applications, SE Management, and Standards through its technical boards and working groups

Why you should be involved in INCOSE

A membership in the International Council on Systems Engineering will expand your view of the engineering of complex systems and your knowledge of the many aspects of the practice. Project managers, software and hardware engineers and product developers are joining INCOSE to learn how to the use the systems engineering process and apply it to their industries. Get a global perspective of your job responsibilities. Learn how the application of systems engineering techniques can improve your job performance and your organization's well being.

Costs

INCOSE membership is $80 US yearly.  This is more than returned in valuable information, networking with colleagues, and opportunities to develop professionally and as an organization.
